I see this bus driver stopping just west of Macleod on Southland at a bus stop. No passengers waiting. The driver puts on his flashers, ducks out of the bus and scurries to the gas bar for a pee, smokes or whatever.

When is it? November 1st, 8:59 AM, tail end of rush hour.

Does he block all right lane traffic, causing mad crazy lane changes in the middle of a major intersection to get around him? Yes.

And here I thought bus stops were meant for a short stop for passenger pick up with minimum traffic disruption.

311 waiting

I see that City of Calgary phone service at the sharp end gets worse and worse, with wait times that are sheer stupidity.

For those who don’t know, the city publishes no telephone directory of direct numbers. You must go through 311 for any new business. Why? To keep unionized employment high? Because civil servants don’t want you lowly citizens bugging them?  Because civil servants do not want their “responsibilities” to be known? Because the city doesn’t want you to know how many useless people are drawing salary to run in circles? All of the above?

So when you do get to a human being, get direct dial and email access info and treasure it.

Why can’t we have an online directory of staff direct lines, cell numbers, departmental direct lines, email addresses and the names of responsible individuals, along with their hours of availability for phone calls? Some of this information is randomly scattered about the city’s large and poorly organized web-site, but it’s tough to find.

Telus incompetence

I see that the TelusMobility search function is busted, and has been for days.

https://business.telusmobility.com/shop/en/AB/business/search?search_cat=Support&q=mobile+hotspot gets an error in both Firefox and IE. And not just for the search term ‘mobile hotspot’, but anything.

What hope was there ever for a business that started out as a government monopoly?

Traffic design fails

I see that northbound traffic on 37th Street SW still hits a stop sign at 146th Avenue. It has for many, many years, even through a complete rebuild of 37th street and the Fish Creek bridge.

Why is the stop sign not on the eastbound side of 146th Avenue, which has very little traffic, as opposed to 37th northbound, which has lots of traffic?

Do the Civil Servants not care? Do they not notice, which is the same as not caring? Is there some good reason for this wastage of brake pad, rubber and fuel, this degradation of the environment?

LRT offensiveness

I see that the LRT is still based on tax eaters getting unreasonable and unearned priority.

Waited at the heritage LRT crossing while a LRT driver triggered the crossing lights and gates and sat at the station. And sat. And sat. Then finally crawled through with east and west bound traffic backed up to the tune of hundreds of vehicles.
